OK, this doesn't really fit in this catagory, but what else can I use ?

It finely dawned on me that when I first started mowing this summer there were a LOT of green toads in the grass.  Anywhere from tennis ball to baseball size.  Not a pretty site when they went through the mower deck.

Ish……….

So as the summer progressed and got hotter, I noticed the toads were getting smaller and darker in color.  So there seemed to be lot that were 1" and brown.  Now there are a lot of very dark, almost black toads and they are tennis ball size again.

Also noticed the other day a LOT more black crickets than earlier this year………..  Seems to be more crickets this year than the last several……..

Anyone with facts, thoughts, ideas ?

Wyo     dunno

When we had our land in West Texas there seemed to be what I called 'toad season' – jillions of them all over the place – but they were all a dark color and about the same size. They would be around for a week or so it seemed, then gone for the rest of the year. The land was kind of harsh out there and I expect not enough survived for us to notice them going through any sort of color change during their llife cycle. I used to wonder where they lived out the rest of their lives, underground I suppose. We never had to worry much with mowing – all the 'grass' was brown anyhow lmaobut I hated driving (or walking) through all the little toads.
